Sleep Well Charlotte - - Skyline of Charlotte, NC
Many people like to shoot cityscapes during the darkest part of the night thinking that it is the best time for a night shot of a city.
Some disagree. A very good time to get a nice picture is about 15 minutes after sunset or 30 minutes before sunrise. The sky offers a richer dusky blue and the same exposure as the cityscape in front of it. If you shoot late at night the sky goes black. Though some photographers like the black sky, I find the dark blue tone to be a nice variation. This picture was taken just about 40 minutes before dawn (or 10 minutes before “civil twilight”, if you will) and I think the sky offers the photo nice contrast and color separation.
