  • Feb 05 - This Dairy Queen on Central Ave. in Charlotte has been there since 1950 and during normal hours it still draws huge crowds due in part to it's history as well as it's stylish retro-appearance.
  • Old Settler’s Cemetery<br /> <br /> Dating back to 1776, this is the city's oldest cemetery.<br /> Charlotte's founder Thomas Polk, wife Susan and son-in-law, Nathaniel Alexander rest here. Nathaniel Alexander was a surgeon-general in the Revolutionary Army as well as a member of the General Assembly for the New State Congress.<br /> <br /> In the background you see the back of First Presbyterian Church, organized in 1821. Many assume that the cemetery must belong to the church, but it has aways been owned by the city. The city closed Old Settlers' Cemetery on August 1, 1867, but burials occurred here with special permission until 1884.
  • Located on Tryon Street, here is the authentic RiRa Irish Pub which was built in Dublin in the1800s and moved here in 1996. The structure of the building dates back to 1910 and during the renovation stable equipment was found suggesting that at some point in history, this site was used as a stable.

  • Waking up in Charlotte with JFG Coffee this morning.<br /> <br /> Like myself, any native of Charlotte, NC will quickly recognize this JFG Coffee sign as an icon that hangs on in the changing landscape of our beautiful city. As a kid, I always knew we were almost home as soon as I saw the coffee sign and it always looked incredible to me the way it lit up with its big light bulb dotted letters. <br /> <br /> The original one was torn down when John Belk freeway was built and I think that billboard had the longest run of any billboard on the east coast! Some were happy to see it go, but many real natives saw it as a loss. Eventually they decided to replace it with a more modern smaller sign that is no longer animated. It is not the ol' light bulb sign, but it is still the same ol' JFG coffee and it still welcomes you to our city. And that works for me!
  • On 10/30/09 a local Photographer makes the evening news as they plan to remove this iconic sign from Charlotte's skyline.
  • Nov 2 - News 14 Carolina was kind enough to speak to me on 11/02/09 about the JFG Billboard and included the interview in todays "top stories".
