July 20 - Waking up in Charlotte with JFG Coffee this morning.
Like myself, any native of Charlotte, NC will quickly recognize this JFG Coffee sign as an icon that hangs on in the changing landscape of our beautiful city. As a kid, I always knew we were almost home as soon as I saw the coffee sign and it always looked incredible to me the way it lit up with its big light bulb dotted letters.
The original one was torn down when John Belk freeway was built and I think that billboard had the longest run of any billboard on the east coast! Some were happy to see it go, but many real natives so it as a loss. Eventually they decided to replace it with a more modern smaller sign that is no longer animated. It is not the ol' light bulb sign, but it is still the same ol' JFG coffee and it still welcomes you to our city. And that works for me!
