Whether you are looking to get in the game of serious sports photography or wanting to capture special moments and memories as your own children participate in sports, you have likely already learned that shooting sports can be fun and challenging. This three-week course will help you take your game to the next level as we look at the techniques of Sports Photography. Through assignments and hands on lectures students will learn how to anticipate and capture the perfect shot, the type of equipment needed for different situations and how to adapt to different lighting and location environments.

  • Aug 19 - Came across the scene of a washed up boat this morning in New Smyrna Beach, Fl.
  • Aug 18 - Meet my nephew, 1st grader, John Ian Sutay... and remember that name. One day he will be pitching for real St. Louis Cardinals. He eats, drinks and sleeps baseball and has 426 Cardinal baseball cards.
  • August 15 - Sensei Randall <br /> This morning I went back to the session with Sensei Randall from earlier this week. I like his form in this shot and so I did a little extra post-processing on this one.

  • Aug 12 - Nathan's first time in the ring.<br /> This was my son, Nathan's first time in the ring. He sparred against JT and did quite well for the first time.

  • Aug 9 - Kyle Harrell... kind of James Dean looking, don't ya think?<br /> *correction to earlier entry today - I got a little nervous about entering the sepia toned photo in the contest so I chose to adjust the crop and go with this one. I just finished entering the photo into the contest which ends tomorrow. I will let you know if it makes the finalist list.<br /> <br /> Post processing some of the photos from Friday's shoot this morning and this is the one that I am planning to enter into the DGrin Challenge.

  • Aug 8 - This is Kyle Harrell, the real deal! In addition to being one of the best boxers in the gym, he is also a trainer. He was nice enough to let me get this photo after a sparring session with one of his clients today. I have several photos of him that were shot with this type of lighting and will have to process them to see which one I will enter into the DGrin Challenge before Monday's deadline. Thanks again Kyle!
  • Aug 7 - Sparring at the gym. <br /> Working with off camera flash, b&w processing with a desired glow and motion effect.
  • Aug 6 - Power without power - Look at the impact on this one!<br /> <br /> Last night the power was out at the gym, so I threw up my SB-800 and took a few photos anyway thinking I might get some artsy creative lighting. I ended up talking with a patron at ringside and missed a few real opportunities, but did get a few good ones. I wish I had taken more photos. Even though you cannot see either boxers face, this one impressed me because of point of contact and the way the guys stomach absorbed the punch. As close as they are, you would not think that there was much power behind a punch, but looking at it, I am thinking he felt that!

  • Aug 4 - <font size=3 color="red">Big Change!</font> Time for a big change. When I first had the idea to post a "photo a day" I had a specific purpose to challenge myself daily, to learn and to grow and to get out as much as possible and take photographs. I love that aspect of the challenge that I have placed in front of me. As many of the wonderful photographers in this community have learned, comments and commenting proves to be a completely different endeavor. Although a lot of fun, I have found that managing the comments is a valuable yet time consuming process. I am often overwhelmed by it, to be quite honest. So, for now, I have decided to return to my initial goal with a new passion, to focus on pushing myself daily to grow and to try new things. Beginning today, I have decided to try to continue participating in this community without accepting comments. I have, however created a <a href="http://jeffgroves.smugmug.com/gallery/3547284" ><font color="yellow"> guestbook</font></a> for anyone that may be interested in commenting there. At 190 photos and over 3900 comments, I have gained so much from the relationships that I have built in this community and the last thing I would want to do is lose any of those relationships. I have learned something from almost every photographer I have befriended in this community and I have learned so much from the feedback from others. I plan to continue visiting other sites and commenting as often as I can, but I want to do that with joy in my heart instead of pressure to keep up. I am not really going anywhere, I am just changing my approach. I hope this change makes sense to all who have taken the time to comment on my photos. Change is hard, change is sometimes scary but change is rarely permanent. Thanks again to all who have and continue to support me! I appreciate each and every one of you.

  • July 31 - Nathan and Roberto training.<br /> Took at lot of sparring photos last night, but decided to post this one over the rest. What I like about this photo is that Nathan (L) is my 25 yr. old son. He just moved back to Charlotte from Florida. This is his second week boxing. Thanks Roberto!
