Mar 08 - Golden Gloves - Finished shooting the 2009 State Golden Gloves in Charlotte, NC yesterday. This is a shot of one of the 52 bouts that I photographed over the last two days.

Needless to say, I have a lot of post-processing still on my plate. I am behind on commenting on the work of other photographers in the daily community, but promise I will catch up soon!

 • Mar 07 - 2009 State Golden Gloves, Charlotte, NC - Up late this eve, working on getting the 24 fights from Friday night loaded. This one caught my eye for a little extra pp and a late night posting on the dailies.
 • March 6 - "A simple cliché". - Okay, so this is one that Brenda and I came up with last night during dinner. Not the best picture in the community and not the most difficult cliché to figure out, but it is on the lighter side.

This photo was added to the new Metaphortography community as part of that project. See how the community is progressing by clicking here.
 • Mar 05 - Metaphortography is a Smugmug based community where photographers can add stock photography that is metaphorical.

I just started a new community on Smugmug and would love for you to join to help me get it started. It is called Metaphortography with the concept being to post a picture for feedback and suggested titles and perhaps even watch it grow into a stock photography website. Should be fun, doesn't have to be a daily thing, but would love your participation.
Chad on the Catawba River - I bumped into Chad while I was out on one of my Catawba River shoots. He couldn't get over the fact that I asked him to model on his motorcycle. Fun guy!

Morning serenity - Water flowing from a backyard water feature catches the morning sun.

Moon craters at dusk - Okay, so the picture was taken about midnight earth time, but is it dusk on the moon? I found it interesting how the craters are much more distint and the dark edge and then fade where the sun shines brighter on the moon's surface. Playing with my new 300mm prime lens (handheld with a shutter speed of 200)
Feel free to comment and rate my pics with a "thumb up" if you like what you see. Thanks, Jeff Groves

Feeling Blue? - No, I didn't add color or saturation in postprocessing. The Bluebird was really feeling blue today. The secret is that I took this picture with fill flash.

Catawba Reservation - Taken some 100 yards from the Catawba River on an Catawba Indian Reservation
 • March 18
A tribute to Uncle Guy for Cheryl - Came accross this old Gulf Memorial today and thought of my sister, Cheryl and Uncle Guy at the same time. Funny, look at the bottom left corner of the barn's porch. Who knew that they had ADT way back then?
Bird Watching - Beautiful afternoon in Charlotte, NC. At 5:15pm it is a wonderful 66F and what an opportunity to kick your feet up and just enjoy the backyard.

To the Moon - Captured in the wee hours this morning in Marion, NC on the way to take pictures of the Upper Catawba River Falls.

Okay, so this "pic of the day" was actually taken on Saturay, March 22. I decided to break the rules today since I enjoyed Easter with my family yesterday, and have been busy working all day today.

Solitary sunset - It seemed that when I cropped this photo without the branches at the top right, that this 2' tall twig by the water's edge looked like a tree on a mountain. Cover the branches with your hand and see if you agree.

Wading for you - At 11:59pm, I almost missed getting a pic of the day up on time. Caught this guy this afternoon. He was there wading for me.

The Birds - Cedar Waxwings to be more specific. We have never seen these in our NC backyard before. Just happened to be on the deck when we heard our trees start to emit a high pitched "zeee". They were everywhere. I was trying to catch a picture of them in the trees when I looked down at my birdbath and found the real action.

April Showers - ... and you know the rest of that saying. I played with Photoshop's artistic brushes by adding an ever so faint brush stroke. This tulip, found in my backyard, grew from a bulb that we had shipped from The Netherlands. It was time to add a little more color to my "pic of the day" gallery.
 • May 8 - What a Photo opp! - Imagine how much fun I had here, yesterday.
The first guy is a 1952-54ish Ford Truck, maybe an F2. I really don't know old cars. It was featured in yesterday's POD, so I thought I would let those interested see where that dash came from. On that note, I found in another picture with the words "King of the Road" just above the bikini lady. Couldn't find anything on Google about that console, which is interesting in itself. If you are trying to make out the tag on the front, it says "Vote Wallace".
Car 2 is a convertible Morris. What? A Morris you say? What is a Morris? I really have no idea but I got some really cool pictures of it. *(thank you Dakota and Alistair for the fascinating additional info).
The two on the end are really old trucks, really, really old. They have spoke wheels. I spent a while here and wish I could have spent more time. I will go back!
